Guitars as far as the eye can see! |
Is it for me?
If you have a classical or 6-string folk guitar and play fingerstyle from conventional music notation
(not tab), come along! You're assured of a warm welcome - we have players from 6 months to 10 years'
experience and we've music for all abilities.
When do you meet?
From 7:30 to 10pm on alternate Thursday evenings in term time - usually 3 terms of 6 get-togethers
per year.
Where do you meet?
In Farlington close to the Hants / West Sussex border, so it's an easy journey from Cosham, Waterlooville,
Havant and Portsmouth, and close to the A3M, M27 and A27 for Fareham, Chichester, Southampton,
Emsworth
and Rowlands Castle. Parking is free. Read more here
What does it cost?
Your first visit is free - nothing to pay, no obligation. The next page has details of the termly
charge if you join.
Are there any benefits?
Yes - you can buy strings, tuners and a selection of published music at a discount. We've recently
started a small library. If you play at our Concerts, you can usually buy
a commemorative CD of the Concert (proceeds to charity). Part of Workshop's success is that players
support it so wholeheartedly - we make regular "long service" presentations at our Concerts.
Is it difficult?
No - our ensemble music always has parts to suit learners with just 2 terms of tuition, yet there
are sometimes lines to challenge players with many years' experience. What's more, you choose
whether you play an easy or a hard line! Download our free trio
and you'll see what we mean.
What are the other players like?
What a question! They're all ages and both sexes (one per person!) - ranging from 16 to 79.
What commitment is it?
We usually play 2 Concerts a year on Thursday evenings, and we hope you make those. We like to polish
our Concert pieces, so you'll need a little practice at home, but much of our music can be sight-read.
What do I do next?
Contact our Director for the Thursdays we're meeting and directions to find us. There's no audition
- just come along and see if you enjoy the relaxed company of over 25 other guitarists who know that
ensemble guitar is a lot of fun.
